Nagpur: As per the data submitted to the Bombay High Court revealed that Amravati district has the highest number of cases pending against MPs and MLAs in Maharashtra.

On the very other hand, the Naxal infested Gadchiroli district doesn’t have a single pending case against any of the former leaders or sitting legislators. There are almost 500 cases pending in various trial courts in the state from which Amravati has 45 cases and Prabhani has 40 cases. Gadchiroli has no cases and Latur has just one case.

Division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice MS Karnik in a suo moto criminal writ were seeking compliance of the top court’s orders to set up special courts in districts for trials of all criminal cases against MPs and MLAs. The Supreme Court also asked the chief justices of each high court to formulate a blueprint for expeditious disposal of such cases.

As per Live Law, according to the data submitted, 51 criminal cases are pending against former and sitting legislators in Bombay High Court. Of them, 19 are at the principal seat, nine before the Nagpur bench, 21 cases before the Aurangabad bench and two in Goa.
