Nagpur: US tech giant Google on Saturday blocked Russian state media from all social media platforms from earning money to retaliate against the invasion of Russia in Ukraine.

The same was followed by Facebook and Google’s subsidiary YouTube. A google spokesperson said in a statement that, “In response to the war in Ukraine, we are pausing Google monetization of Russian state-funded media across our platforms, we’re actively monitoring new developments and will take further steps if necessary.”

Adding to this, he said, “Our teams have started to pause the ability for certain channels to monetize on YouTube, including (Russia Today) RT’s YouTube channels globally” this was in reference to a Russian state-funded news outlet.

In addition to the present, YouTube would also restrain recommendations to the same channels and will continue to “actively surface authoritative news content” in Russia-Ukraine search results.
