Nagpur: The Bombay High court on Thursday dismissed a plea filed by Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut seeking quashing of criminal defamation proceedings initiated against her by lyricist Javed Akhtar’s complaint.
High court judge, Justice Ravti Dere has reserved the order on her plea on September 1 saying that the applicant’s petition “stands dismissed”.
Ranaut had challenged the defamation proceedings initiated against her through her counsel Rizwan Siddiquee.
Javed Akhtar had filed the criminal complaint against the Bollywood actress in November 2929 before the Andheri Metropolitan magistrate for allegedly making defamatory remarks against him in a television interview.
After the complaint, in December 2020, the court directed the Juhu police to conduct an inquiry into the lyricist’s complaint against the actress complaint and initiated criminal proceedings against her.
