Nagpur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday while interacting with the start-ups announced that January 16 will be celebrated as National Start-up day.

Modi added that the start-ups are going to be the new backbone of new India. “Out start-ups are changing the rules of the game. I believe that startups are going to be the backbone of India,” Modi said while interacting with over 150 startups across different sectors.

He further said, “I congratulate all the start-ups, all the youth, who are raising the flag of India in the world of start-ups. For this culture of startups to reach the far-flung parts of the country, it has been decided to celebrate January 16 as National startup day.”

Modi also hailed that India has over 60,000 startups with 42 unicorns. Modi added that the government is focusing on three aspects to strengthen innovation, entrepreneurship and the startup ecosystem. “28,000 patents were granted last year as compared to 4,000 patents in 2013-14. Against the registration of 70,000 trademarks in 2013-14, 2.5 lakh trademarks have been registered in 2020-21,” the prime minister said.
