Nagpur: The five-day old Shinde led government faced floor test today and managed to prove majority in the assembly.

Shinde managed to win 164 trust votes in favour of the 288-member house. Congress leaders like Ashok Chavan and Vijay Wadettiwar did not turn up for the trust vote. Senior Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde’s daughter Praniti Shinde was absent from the trust vote. Shinde was not present yesterday for the speaker election too.

The opposition MLAs hooted today in the assembly when Thackeray group MLAs supported Shinde camp in the trust vote against former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.

The development comes a day after BJP’s Rahul Narwekar was elected as the speaker of the assembly. Narwekar, the newly-appointed appointed speaker of the assembly, removed Shiv Sena MLA Ajay Chaudhary as the legislative party leader.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Monday said that the Shinde camp cannot claim to be the original Sena.
