Nagpur: India on Saturday reported 46,759 fresh Covid-19 cases and 509 deaths in the last 24 hours according to the government.

However, the country achieved a new milestone on Friday by vaccinating almost one crore people, its highest single-day count so far.

Till date, 69 crore vaccination doses have been administered in India. Prime minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate people for making the vaccination drive successful.

Health minister Mansukh Mandaviya also took to twitter to thank the health workers and free vaccines provided by the prime minister.

However, Kerala has reported over 32,000 Covid-19 cases on Friday, taking the state’s positivity rate at 19.22 per cent.

There has been an increase from 198.03 per cent from August 26. The state has been reporting over 30,000 cases for three days in a row.

Experts claim that there has been a rise in the cases due to the Delta-plus variant of Covid-19 which could bring in the possible third wave in the country.

According to a report, the variant doubles the risk of hospitalization compared to the Alpha variant.

The Delta-plus variant has wreaked havoc around the world, the US has crossed 100,000 cases, highest in the last eight months according to the health department.

Data published shows a total of 101,433 Covid-19 patients were hospitalised, the main reason being the rise of the Delta-plus variant in the region.

The hospitalization in the US has nearly doubled in the past month and a report states that more than 500 people were admitted every hour.
