Nagpur: A recent study led by the ICMR-regional medical research centre (RCMR), Bhubaneswar reveals that the level of antibodies produced among the recipients of Covaxin starts to decline after two months and antibodies produced from Covishield starts after three months.

The researchers associated with ICMR’s Bhubaneswar centre along with other government institutions undertook a post vaccination study of 614 healthcare workers and found out that those who did not develop breakthrough infections showed “significant” decline in antibody levels.

Senior scientist from ICMR-RMRC Bhubaneswar, Debdutta Bhattacharya said that they have found that antibodies level of Covaxin recipients is decreasing after two months of second dose vaccination, while it is three months for Covishield recipients.

“Whether or not there is a need for a booster shot requires scientific evidence,” Bhattacharya said.

He added that this study was a first of its kind from India wherein they followed the vaccine recipients of both the Covid-19 vaccine for six months.
