Nagpur: Prime minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, in which a unique digital health ID will be provided to the people which will contain all their health records.

The pilot project of the National Digital Health mission was announced back on August 15, 2020 by Modi. While lauding the digital initiatives in the country, Modi said “Today is a very important day. The drive to strengthen the health facilities of the country, in the last 7 years, is entering a new phase today. This is not an ordinary phase. This is an extraordinary phase.”

Modi also took the platform to praise the CoWin application, the platform which is a record-keeper for Covvid-19 vaccination, availability and certificates. The PM claimed that the CoWin application played a “big role” in administering 86 crore vaccine doses since the inoculation drive began in January.

At present, the project is being implemented in the pilot phase in six union territories, excluding Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir. In this, a unique 14-digit health identification number for every citizen will be issued which will also work as their health account. The national Health ID will be a repository of all health-related information of a person.

This health account will contain details of every test, every disease, the doctors they visited and even the medicine taken. The information will be useful as it is portable and easily accessible, if at all the patient shifts to another city.
