Nagpur: Out of the eight killed in the Lakhimpur violence on Sunday, a local journalist who was at the spot to cover the incident was killed. The farmers had staged a protest against a union minister’s visit to the district that later took a violent turn.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Raman Kashyap. Kashyap was at the site to report about the protest when an SUV in Union minister Ajay Mishra’s convoy ran over the protesting farmers. The farmers’ union have alleged that the car that ran over the farmers was driven by Mishra’s son. They also alleged that Raman was crushed under the car and his body was found hours after the incident.

According to a report citing his father Ram Dulari, Kashyap had been missing for hours since the incident. “He was just doing his journalistic duty. I received a phone call at 3am about an unknown body, when I went to the mortuary, it was my son,” he said.

Another report states that Kashyap was beaten to death by protestors while he was shooting the videos for the same.
