Nagpur: According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), even though the cases seem to be decreasing every single day, the possibility of the third wave continues to grow. The positivity rate at various places have dropped down; however, the WHO has not ruled out the possibility of a third wave of the novel coronavirus.

WHO stated that the number of cases of the new subvariant of the Delta variant has been increasing across the world. As of now, the health agency has stated that 26,000 cases have been detected of the new variant. As per experts, the variant seems to be 15 per cent more transmissible than the Delta variant itself.

According to reports, the AY.4.2 variant has been detected in over 40 countries and over 17 cases have been detected in India. Cases of the subvariant have been detected in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir.

The United Kingdom has recorded over 50,000 cases for the first time since July. Experts suggest that Delta has been a dominant variant in the UK but the case of AY.4.2 is currently increasing its frequency. The report released by the UK health secretary states that approximately 6 per cent of cases are due to the new subvariant.
