Nagpur: Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) in order to speed up the coverage of first dose beneficiaries of the Covid-19 vaccine in the city said it was planning to discontinue free Covid-19 jabs at their vaccination centres after November 30.

Additional municipal commissioner Ram Joshi told The Free Media that this decision was taken to ramp up the vaccination drive in the city.

He said that despite giving out free doses of Covid-19 vaccine, people are hesitant to take the vaccine. There are 160 free vaccination centres in the city and has almost 20 lakh eligible beneficiaries of which nearly 17 lakhs have received the first dose.

Joshi said that they are only planning to make the second dose free after November 30. The additional commissioner on Tuesday announced that free Covid-19 first dose will be available till November 30 and said that NMC received a good response after the announcement.

Maharashtra government has directed to complete the administration of first dose by November 30 and the local body authority is planning to cover the remaining three lakh people by then, said Joshi in a statement.
