Nagpur: Joint Secretary of Union Health ministry Law Agrawal while addressing a press conference today said that two cases of Omicron variant have been detected in India so far. He added that both the cases are from Karnataka.

Agrawal further said that all their primary and secondary contacts have been traced and are under monitoring. “All the protocols are being followed,” he added. The cases have been detected through genome sequencing efforts of the INSACOG consortium of 37 laboratories established by the Health ministry. “We need not panic, but awareness is absolutely essential. COVID apt behaviour is required,” DG ICMR Balram Bhargava said. Agrawal added that passengers arriving from ‘at-risk’ countries need to undergo RT-PCR test on arrival and if found positive they will be treated under clinical management control.
