Nagpur: A lab technician from Amravati district has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment after he allegedly took a swab sample from a woman’s private parts after pretending it was for a Covid-19 test.

A local court was hearing the matter and the sentence was pronounced after 17 months. The man was arrested on July 30, 2020 on the charges of rape. The incident took place after a mall employee in Amravati had tested positive for Covid-19. Post this, all the employees of the mall were asked to undergo testing at the trauma care centre at Badnera.

As per reports, after finishing the testing of the employees, the technician told the female employee that her report was positive and she has to undergo a few more tests. He further said that he will have to take a swab from her private parts as a part of the process.

After the process was done, the woman became suspicious and narrated the incident to her brother who then spoke to a doctor and confirmed about the process. After learning that there was no test required as such, the women went to Badnera police station and lodged a complaint against the man. The court found the accused guilty under IPC sections 354 (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 376 (rape).
