AAP announces 300 units free power to every household in Punjab from July 1

Nagpur: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced on Saturday that every household in Punjab will receive 300 units of free electricity each month beginning July 1.
Further, he stated that there would be no increase in the electricity tariff for industrial consumers, while free power for farmers would be maintained.
The free power of 300 units was Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s first guarantee to the electorate of Punjab in June 2021. This pledge was similar to one made by his government in New Delhi.
The Punjab government intends to follow the Delhi model in implementing this benefit, which will provide free consumption of up to 300 units per month. Those who consume more than 300 units will be charged.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced last month the implementation of the doorstep ration delivery scheme, which was once again AAp’s key campaign agenda in the elections.
Last November, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi reduced electricity prices by Rs 3 per unit. He stated that the first 100 units of power for all domestic consumers would be charged at Rs 1.19 per unit. Previously, it was Rs 4.19 per unit. Following that, consumption between 100 and 300 units was charged at Rs 4 per unit rather than Rs 7. The charge for consumption of more than 300 units was Rs 5.67 per unit, down from Rs 8.76 per unit previously. Channi’s tariff changes were retained by the AAP government in its first tariff order, which was issued recently. (edited)
