Nagpur: If you have encountered any snags lately while using card payments for subscriptions and app purchases on Apple, you’re not alone. As the American tech behemoth has stopped accepting these payment methods in India.
The alters and changes of auto-debit rules by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) made a ramifications on many users especially those with recurring payments. One such group of users is the Apple App Store, which requires a monthly auto debit of a fixed amount to keep all of its services running smoothly. Procedures are similar to how we used to add our debit and credit cards to the portal, and the debit of the recurring amount is automated every month when it’s due, but the new change has thrown it off.
Netflix, Google, and many other app users, like Apple users, complained about payment rejection. The RBI implemented new auto-debit rules in October of last year, and people have been experiencing issues with recurring payments since then.
For its subscription and ID services, Apple no longer accepts Indian credit or debit cards.That simply means that your old payment method associated with your Apple ID will no longer be usable for auto-debiting. For recurring amounts, Apple currently accepts only netbanking, UPI, and Apple ID balance.
In 2020, National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) launched the UPI auto pay feature for auto debiting of periodic payments.
