Nagpur: Maharashtra college academic year is set to begin from November 1, however state higher and technical education minister Uday Samant on Monday said that classroom teaching in colleges might not start from November 1 itself.

The new academic year will begin in November but the classes will be held in online mode itself according to Samant.

He added that decisions on online or physical classes will be taken as per the situation prevailing at that time and district collectors who are head of disaster management committees would also be consulted for the same.

While speaking to PTI, Samant said “I have said the academic year will begin from November 1.

However, I have not said physical classes will begin from that day itself.” He added that taking the risk of starting online classes is a big challenge.

“We need to consider that not all eligible beneficiaries have been administered the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and only 17 to 18 per cent of them have received the second dose.

If the students had received both the doses of the vaccine, then we could have thought of starting the physical classes,” he said.

Samant also claimed that the state government would file FIRs against the firms if they discriminate between the students who have passed during the pandemic and others while hiring or providing the job.
