Nagpur: Mumbai, the city which is facing extreme weather conditions including cyclones has become the first big city in India and South Asia to launch its climate action plan.
The plan was launched by Maharashtra minister of environment, tourism, and protocol Aditya Thackeray along with Mumbai Climate Action Plan (MCAP) on Friday.
The event was attended by several people across the state and virtually.
The Mumbai Corporation of Greater Mumbai is developing a climate action plan which will be aimed at better future planning and growth and will also be keeping a tune with climate adaptation.
The plan will be completed after public consultation in two months’ time.
The MCAP will reportedly focus on six action tracks– sustainable waste management, urban greening and biodiversity, urban flooding and water resource management, building energy efficiency, air quality, and sustainable mobility.
“The MCAP will focus on building the city and moving the citizens toward climate-resilient and sustainable development, ensuring adaptation and mitigation.
From November onwards, the suggestions will be included, and the policy action will initiate for #MumbaiClimateActionPlan,” Thackeray said in a tweet.
