Nagpur: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Maharashtra transport minister and Shiv Sena leader Anil Parab for questioning in a money laundering case which was registered against former state home minister Anil Deshmukh.

According to officials, Parab is being questioned in a money laundering case which is being investigated against former Maharashtra minister Anil Deshmukh after disclosures have been made by other accused.

Parab claims that he received the notice on Sunday evening. He added “I don’t know the notice is related to which case as it doesn’t mention any details. It says that I will have to be present in their office on August 31 at 11am.”

Aides close to Parab claim that this move by the ED comes after Union minister Narayan Rane’s arrest by the Maharashtra government last week in Ratnagiri. The union minister had made derogatory remarks against Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut also tweeted claiming that the ED notice to Parab comes after Rane’s arrest by the state police.

Parab has also been parliamentary affairs minister in the Uddhav Thackeray-led MahaVikas Aghadi (MVA) government.

Earlier this year, former Mumbai top cop Param Bir Singh had alleged that Deshmukh had told dismissed police officer Sachin Waze to collect Rs 100 crore from bar owners in the city illegally every month for Deshmukh.

Waze in April tried to submit a letter the NIA court when he was produced before it in a murder case. In the letter, Waze had asked him to extort money from the BMC contractors and others, to which Parab denied the charge.
