Nagpur: A portion of the under-construction flyover in Pardi-Kalamna collapsed late Tuesday evening. The incident took place near Bharat Nagar square on Kalamna ring road. The flyover was being constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

No casualties have been reported so far. Nagpur city police and Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) fire and emergency services team reached the spot in no time to take stock of the situation. Sources told The Free Media that an auto rickshaw and a truck had passed underneath the bridge before collapsing. However, nobody was injured. The traffic was closed in the area to speed up the construction work of the flyover.

Within no time, the residents and netizens started questioning the contractors as well as Union minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari who hails from Nagpur for such shoddy work. The Nationalist Congress party members late at night staged a protest against the BJP over the collapse of the flyover. The flyover has been under-construction since the last two years.

Foundation stone of the flyover was laid by Prime minister Narendra Modi in 2014 and the NHAI had claimed that the flyover would be completed by 2022.
