Nagpur: The Maharashtra government on Thursday remained firm on their decision of holding the board examinations in offline mode.

The Maharashtra state board of secondary and higher education on Thursday announced that offline exams would be held as per schedule in the state. Director of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Sharad Gosavi said to avoid overcrowding of the students, the number of exams centres have been increased. He added that students will be allowed to give exams at their own schools.

Maharashtra SSC and HSC will be from March itself. Class 10 examinations commence from March 15 and Class 12 will be held from March 4. The announcement comes after students have been demanding online board examinations.

Violence erupted in various parts of Maharashtra after hundreds of students took to streets to protest against the offline board examinations. As per reports, social media influencer and Youtuber Vikas Fhatak also known as Hindustani Bhau instigated the students to hold protests across the state. He was later arrested by the Maharashtra police for the same.

Hundreds of students also protested outside state education minister Varsha Gaikwad’s residence demanding cancellation of board examinations. The aggrieved students protesting at Medical square in Nagpur told The Free Media that they either want board examinations to be cancelled or to be held in online mode. The students claimed that they have been attending online classes since the last two years, hence the exams should also be taken in online mode rather than offline mode.
