Nagpur: Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope on Friday said that Covid-19 cases in the state are declining significantly and the infections are likely to reach an endemic stage by March.

While addressing the media in Jalna, Tope said since the cases are declining, the government is all set to ease the restrictions. He added that the state was reporting over 40,000 cases till last month and the cases have now come down to 15,000. “The infection curve is now flattening in major cities and we are likely to reach the endemic stage by March,” the health minister said.

Tope further added that there are a few cities which were reporting lesser cases but are now reporting more cases than before and is hopeful that they will come down soon. As per health experts and medical bodies, a disease reaches an endemic stage when its spread is limited to a particular area and the rate of spreading is predictable.

The Maharashtra minister said the Centre must start the process of vaccinating children in the age of 12 to 15 against Covid-19 and that Maharashtra was ready with the health infrastructure needed for the drive. The cases will be eased out as the number of cases reduce, he said.

Maharashtra on Friday reported 13,840 new Covid-19 cases and no new Omicron cases were reported on the same day.
