Nagpur: The Government of India on Monday issued an order to ban 54 Chinese apps citing that the applications pose a threat to India’s security.

The 54 Chinese apps include: Beauty Camera: Sweet Selfie HD, Beauty Camera – Selfie Camera, Equalizer & Bass Booster, CamCard for SalesForce Ent, Isoland 2: Ashes of Time Lite, Viva Video Editor, Tencent Xriver, Onmyoji Chess, Onmyoji Arena, AppLock, Dual Space Lite.

An official from the ministry of electronics and IT said, “The 54 apps have already been blocked from being accessed in India through the PlayStore.”

In June 2020, the Centre had banned 59 mobile applications including TikTok, famous game PubG, Shein, Wechat and Helo. Majority of the apps were red-flagged by the intelligence agencies and over concerns that they had been collecting the personal data of the user. This decision was taken by the central government after almost 20 Indian soldiers and Chinese soldiers were killed during violent clashes between India and China at Galwan valley in Eastern Ladakh.

Post this, in September 2020, the government banned 118 more applications which are banned till date. The government had cited “sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order” as reasons for the ban.
