Nagpur: After a landslide victory in four states—Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is now confident that they will be forming a government in Maharashtra in 2024.

Former chief minister and Goa’s election in-charge Devendra Fadnavis asserted that the party will form government in Maharashtra after the 2024 Assembly election with full majority. He also said that the party’s main target is to get rid of Shiv Sena from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

“We want to rescue the civic body from the clutches of corruption. The BJP is not against any party [read Sena] per se, but against corruption,” the former chief minister said while addressing the party workers and the media.

To form the government in Maharashtra in 2024, BJP will need to secure 144 seats out of 288 seats to cross the halfway mark. The BJP currently has 106 members. However, destabilizing the Maha Vikas Aghadi government (MVA) will be a challenge for the BJP as the p[resent government together make up for 154 seats.

Congress (44), NCP (54), Shiv Sena (56), together make up for 154 seats and comfortably cross the halfway mark of 144.

The Thackeray-led Sena parted ways with the BJP due the chief minister post. Power hungry Shiv Sena then joined hands with the Congress and NCP to form their government in Maharashtra and have a Sena chief minister.
