Nagpur: A few hours after legendary singer Krishnakumar Kunnath’s death, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced that the state government will give a gun salute at the Kolkata airport to honour him.

The man with the golden voice was 53. The singer reportedly felt uneasy while performing at Nazrul Manch auditorium in South Kolkata. The auditorium was said to be overcrowded and was unbearably hot. After leaving the venue, KK was rushed to CMRI hospital where was declared ‘brought dead.’

Several videos surfacing on social media showed him looking unwell and the team members rushing him out of the venue. KK felt unwell at his hotel and was then rushed to the hospital. KK has recorded songs in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali, among other languages.

He started his journey by recording jingles and has recorded over 3,000 jingles in his career. He entered Bollywood a few years later and in no time was considered to be the king of romantic songs. The Emraan Hashmi-KK duo ruled the playlists of 90s kids. KK was known for some of Bollywood’s biggest hits, like ‘Pal’ and ‘Yaaron’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to twitter and said “Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK. His songs reflected a wide range of emotions as struck a chord with people of all age groups. We will always remember him through his songs. Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti.”
