Army chopper crashes in Coonoor, CDS Bipin Rawat on board

Nagpur: An army chopper crashed in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. According to the Indian Air Force, chief of defence staff Bipin Rawat along with his staff and family members was on board.

As per sources, four people have been killed and two others who were onboard have survived. The crash took place in the Nilgiris and the chopper was on its way to the army base in Sulur.

The Indian Air Force confirmed the news on twitter, “An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, with CDS Gen Bipin Rawat on board, met with an accident today near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.”

According to DSSC sources, around 14 army personnel along with Rawat and his wife were on board the chopper.
