The cabinet will decide next week what measures to bring in to control the rapid rise in coronavirus patients in the last week

In the last week from 19 to 26 October 2021, 50% more people tested positive for COVID-19 compared to the week before. Reported figures increased in all regions and in all age groups. 18.3% of people aged 12 years and older are currently not vaccinated against the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Of the people (aged 12+) who tested positive for the coronavirus in recent weeks, 52% were not vaccinated against the coronavirus, or were not (yet) fully vaccinated. Prevent the spread by staying 1.5 metres apart wherever possible, and working from home if you can. If you have symptoms, stay home and get tested by the Municipal Public Health Services (GGDs). Even if you are vaccinated.

The number of new patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19 increased to 584 admissions last week (34% more than the week before). 110 new COVID-19 patients were admitted to ICU (+31%).

Health minister Hugo de Jonge told NOS (The Nederlandse Omroep Stichting (NOS) is one of the broadcasting organisations making up the Netherlands Public Broadcasting system.)

that numbers were rising ‘faster and sooner than we expected’, but said the outlook was complicated by the fact that the majority of people in hospital are unvaccinated.

The cabinet had been due to announce the next stage of pandemic rules on November 5.
