Nagpur: A video of Hyderabad police officers in the city stopping commuters and checking their phones have gone viral. The Hyderabad police are allegedly checking their phones to look for chats regarding ganja or any other drugs.

The video has invited a lot of social media backlash for the police with many of them slamming the breach of privacy. The police are said to be carrying out an ‘anti-ganja-drugs’ drive in the part of the old city by stopping the commuters, especially the two wheelers and asking the riders to show their phones. The police are reportedly searching the word ‘drugs’ in their Whatsapp chats.

As per The News Minute, deputy commissioner of Police, South zone, Gajarao Bhupal said that he is aware that random phone checking is going on but the cops are not really forcing anyone as the commuters are co-operating. He added that the public can deny giving their phones, however, they will then need to see what legal provisions apply. Bhupal further said that there has not been any issue so far.
