Nagpur: Prime minister Narendra Modi on Monday reached Varanasi to inaugurate the first phase of Kashi Vishwanath Dham project ahead of Uttar Pradesh polls 2022.

This project is considered to be Modi’s dream project, which costs around Rs 800 crore. The temple corridor project will connect the Vishwanath temple and the two Ghats along the Ganges in Varanasi. This will ensure easy movement of pilgrims and devotees between the Ghats as well as the temple.

The first phase of the project has been built at a cost of Rs 339 crore and is spread at around 5,000 hectares. The project was first proposed to be spread across 3,000 hectares. It even comprises 23 buildings. The foundation stone for this mega project was laid back in 2019 and is said to be one of the dream projects of Modi.

According to reports, 3,000 guests of different backgrounds will be witnessing the inauguration of the project. There were more than 300 properties acquired to make this project a success. Due to acquisition of properties, around 1400 people were rehabilitated.

More than 40 ancient temples were rediscovered to work on the project, however, the Prime Minister’s office in a statement said that there will be no change in the original structure. In another instance, the netizens started questioning the cost of the project and started comparing the mega project to unemployment and crime rate in the state. Few also pointed out as to how Indian satellite Chandrayaan was built at a much lower price than the project.
