Nagpur: Amid surge of Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra, guardian minister Nitin Raut on Wednesday along with other senior officials announced fresh restrictions for Nagpur district.

Raut announced closure of schools for classes one to eight till January 31 and also made an RT-PCR report mandatory for government and private offices. The decision to shut down schools came after the district recorded a spike of 404 daily Covid-19 cases on Tuesday. Nagpur is witnessing a surge in Covid-19 cases after January 1.

Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar told The Free Media that restaurants, bars and cafes are allowed to operate till 12 am with 50 per cent capacity. “If anyone found breaching the rules imposed, a fine of Rs 10,000 will be levied which could also lead to closure of the restaurant/ bar/ café. There will be strict checking throughout the day by the police department,” he added. Kumar also said that only 50 persons are allowed to gather in the banquet hall for marriages.

Raut further emphasized on wearing a mask all the time while going out, especially on public transport. “A fine of Rs 500 will be imposed if one is found without a mask at a public place,” Raut said while addressing the media. The indecisive guardian minister also added that the restrictions which have been imposed in Pune would be applied in Nagpur district too.
